My names are Supo Oliyide. I’m a real estate practitioner based in Ikeja and have been banking with GTBANK for over a decade now. It was not the first time I will experience ATM dispense errors. Most times it’s usually reversed almost instantly or at worst before close of work. This is probably because I always avoid using
other banks’ ATM.
However, on the 6th of February 2017 at Lagos State Lands Registry where I had gone for an official assignment. I needed to make a payment and I had no choice than to use the nearest available ATM machines. After trying UBA without any luck due to lack of cash, I moved to Zenith Bank where the dispense error actually happened.
I reported the incident immediately to the branch’s customers’ service section but was told to report to GTBANK as the card issuer. On same day at GTBANK I was told to report back in 48 hours if there was no reversal.
I reported after the stipulated period since there was no reversal. Nothing came out of this when I checked back after two (2) working weeks as advised. I got a mail from GTBANK stating that the report was declined by Zenith Bank.
Thereafter, I wrote a letter on 16th February 2017 calling for an investigation into the matter. Again, nothing happened and I wrote another letter on 15th of March 2017 requesting for the transaction’s camera footage as a proof.
Following this last letter, I made several follow up visits but all to no avail. The last thing I was told was that the footage would be sent to my mail as soon as it was received. This was however the situation until I got introduced to CAFON around September 2017as it
became apparent that the matter was to be swept under carpet.
At CAFON, I narrated my ordeal and also submitted all relevant correspondence with GTBANK as required. Alas! It was however surprising to me at about a month later specifically on the 6th of November 2017 when I unexpectedly received an alert for the reversal of the $27.93 ( N10,000 )making it ten whole months for justice to prevail at last.
I’m seizing this opportunity to say a very big THANKYOU to CAFON for doing a great job. God bless CAFON. God bless Nigeria!
