Welcome to our blog!
I’m sure you really must have been wondering what this is all about? Well, we hope we got your attention? Human beings are social animals, and we’ve got to interact with one another. Human interaction comprises of; physical, social, environmental etc such interactions affect her in one way or the other. However, a responsible interaction with the environment that avoids depletion or degradation of natural resources allows for long-term environmental quality and prevents man from going into extinction.
In this article, we would be discussing about, ‘your friends’ i.e the food we eat, water we drink, means of transportation, sources of energy/electricity, methods of manufacturing etc.
Henceforth, we should note that every product we purchase has an environmental footprint; from the materials used to create it, to the pollution emitted during manufacturing, to the packaging that ends up in landfills. The lifespan of most packaging materials such as; tin can, glass bottle, plastic bottles/nylon, disposable diaper etc spans far beyond human existence hence, the coining of the 3Rs; Reduce, Reuse and Recycle to encourage environmental sustainability.
‘If we do not start conserving resources and reducing impacts, we will soon have less fresh water, less land to grow food and more and more plants and animals will become extinct.’- Dr Trevor Thornton.
Water conservation is very critical, especially as our growing population puts increased demand on the nation’s water sources. Bottled water companies try to give tap water a bad name, and its something we’ve all fall for, when production of all those plastic bottles is notoriously harmful to communities and wildlife.
Some products harm and endangers species by threatening their habitat. To avoid contributing to the endangerment of wildlife, shop conscientiously and look for products made from sustainable materials like bamboo.
Our aim is to pinpoint areas of consumer lifestyle that’s not sustainable and try influence your next purchase, by considering the following:
- Think twice before shopping
- Always consider products that impacts the environment positively
- Avoid products with unsustainable packaging
- Boycott products that endangers wildlife
- Support companies dedicated to sustainable production
- Buy organic food when possible
- Be water wise
- Drive less, Drive green
- Reduce unhealthy consumption habits
- Adopt deliberate means to reduce human population
Join the fight for #SustainableConsumption to reduce the impact of human activities on our dear environment such that, human needs can be met now and in the future.
